Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This sometimes-overused label is meant to identify when someone has experienced a traumatic event and is struggling with nightmares, memories, intrusive thoughts, avoiding anything that reminds you of the traumatic event or general fear and hypervigilance (always on the lookout).
A traumatic event is anything that causes distress to someone who has experienced a shocking, scary, or dangerous event. If you are struggling with recovering from experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event, we can help.
Unlike other forms of psychological disorders, the core issue in trauma is reality. ― Bessel A. van der Kolk
Trauma has impacted our society at greater levels than ever before. We have found that a traumatic event occurring in someone’s life can have an impact that spreads over the lifetime. Treating PTSD requires a clinician with specialized training and knowledge of PTSD.
Depending on the traumatic event experienced there are different interventions used to successfully help people. Not all interventions help all traumas. In fact, sometimes using the wrong intervention could create more problems. It is important that the clinician treating the individual with PTSD has the correct qualifications.
Trauma is hell on earth. Trauma resolved is a gift from the gods. ― Peter A. Levine
